Definition of
Podiatry

Podiatry is the professional care and treatment of people’s feet. We specialise in the assessment and treatment of foot and lower limb problems.

General Foot Care

We treat any condition affecting your feet, including; ingrown, thick or fungal toenails, warts (Verrucae), corns, callouses (hard skin) and cracked heels. We also provide routine nail cutting and skin care if for some reason you just find it difficult to reach your feet or would prefer not to manage them yourself. All our instruments are autoclave sterilised.

Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetes can affect the circulation to the feet and may cause nerve damage, delayed healing and susceptibility to infection. It’s important that patients with both Type I and Type II Diabetes have regular foot assessments and treatment if necessary, as well as having a good understanding of the way that Diabetes can affect the feet to prevent problems before they start.

Children’s Feet

There are many conditions that can affect a growing foot, from Sever’s Disease (heel pain), ingrown toenails, warts (Verrucae) and aching flat feet. Aching feet and legs, including at night time and during or after sport, indicate that your child may need to have a biomechanical and footwear assessment.

Orthotic Therapy

Orthotics or orthoses are inserts worn inside the shoes to improve the alignment, function and movement of your feet. They are used to treat many common foot conditions in both adults and children. We make prescription orthotics using the latest 3D scanning technology to ensure a comfortable, customised result.

Foot and Lower Limb Pain

Pain in the feet or legs is common and can be caused by a wide variety of factors. Movement in one part of you limb will affect movement in another part of the limb and so feet and lower limb conditions are closely related. The posture of your feet and the way that you walk can have a big impact further up your leg so it’s important that if you suffer from foot or lower limb pain that you are assessed by a Podiatrist.

Sports Related Problems

Sport is an important part of life and helps to keep us fit and healthy, but sometimes it can cause pain or injury. The repetitive nature of sports can overuse structures and injury is an unfortunate risk we take when we participate. Any regular pain in your foot or lower limb that you experience while playing sport or exercising should be assessed by a Podiatrist so you can continue to do the activities you love.

Ingrown Toenails

An ingrown toenail is a very common condition where the corner or side of your toenail grows into the skin around your toenail. Most often it happens on big toes but can affect all toenails. They can occur through damage or incorrect trimming of your toenail, or sometimes it’s the shape of the nail that’s the problem. As Podiatrists we are very good at treating ingrown toenails and can expertly clear the nail fold of the offending piece of nail which can provide immediate relief. In some cases if the problem is severe or recurring, we proceed to a more permanent solution (nail surgery).
